Latimpacto and Catalytic Capital Consortium will host a Bootcamp that starts next
April 11th and it will have seven sessions. In this space, 20 Latimpacto members will
learn about catalytic capital, understanding its potential and relevance for the region,
and help to widen its use. This bootcamp is aimed at individuals who work in the
impact investment space and want to learn how catalytic capital can be used to scale
impact and leverage resources.
In Latin America, catalytic capital faces many challenges to gain relevance at scale.
First, awareness gaps limit catalytic capital's ability to take off. A survey undertaken
by Latimpacto found that 50% of surveyed members sought a better understanding
of how catalytic capital works in the first place. Another survey conducted by
Latimpacto showed that only 51% of capital providers have deployed catalytic capital,
yet when asked if they have provided concessionary capital, only 12% claim they
have. It is no surprise then that catalytic capital is sometimes used as a synonym for
blended finance or catalytic philanthropy.
The second challenge is moving from knowledge to execution. Latimpacto's research
also revealed that a lack of collaboration and an adequate regulatory framework is
considered among the main barriers that prevent organizations from innovating and
taking on greater risk, thus limiting their impact.
For the above reasons, the Catalytic Capital Consortium (C3) seeks to build and
disseminate more knowledge on this topic. As part of this agenda, C3 has partnered with
with Latimpacto to promote the catalytic capital concept, demonstrate its potential
and relevance for the region, and help to widespread its use.
