The Bioeconomy in Colombia: Actors, Opportunities and Challenges

This report provides a comprehensive overview of the current bioeconomy ecosystem, its actors, opportunities and challenges, highlighting the role of the Amazon as a key territory for investing in nature-based solutions and integrating ancestral knowledge and technology with direct impact on local communities and standing forest conservation.

Through the mapping of 25 stakeholders -including governments, companies, research institutes and international cooperation agencies- multiple entry points for impact investment were identified, especially in value chains for natural ingredients, bioinputs, biotechnology, sustainable tourism and non-timber forest products.

Betting on the bioeconomy in Colombia means investing in a regenerative, territorially fair economic model with a high potential for economic, environmental and social returns in one of the most biologically and culturally diverse countries in the world.
